At-Home Pet Euthanasia with Compassion, Dignity, and Respect
Saying goodbye to a beloved companion is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner can face. Since 2018, Vet Chez Vous has been supporting families through this delicate time by providing in-home euthanasia services, allowing pets to pass peacefully in the comfort and familiarity of their own home, surrounded by the people who love them most.
We believe that every pet deserves an end-of-life experience marked by dignity, comfort, and respect. That is why we take the time to guide each family with compassion, empathy, and understanding, helping to make this difficult moment as peaceful as possible.
The founders of Vet Chez Vous have completed certification through the CAETA (Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy), a recognized program specializing in palliative care, end-of-life support, and in-home euthanasia.
Together, we navigate this journey with kindness, respect, and empathy, honoring the unique bond between you and your beloved companion.
OUR LONG STANDING COMMITMENT TO end-of-life CARE
Vet Chez Vous was founded by Dr. Danna Dahan and Dr. Rebecca Fernando with a vision of bringing compassionate veterinary care into the home. From the very beginning, in-home euthanasia has been one of our core services, allowing families to say goodbye to their beloved pets in the comfort, peace, and familiarity of their own surroundings.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of supporting thousands of pets and their families through one of life’s most difficult moments. As awareness of the benefits of in-home euthanasia has grown, Dr. Dahan has also mentored and trained veterinarians who now provide these services throughout the community, helping more families access compassionate end-of-life care for their cherished companions.
Our mission remains unchanged: to provide every pet entrusted to our care with a peaceful, dignified, and loving farewell, while supporting the families who love them every step of the way.
Frequently asked questions about compassionate at-home pet euthanasia
How do you know if it's the right time? This is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner may ever face, regardless of your pet’s health condition. We encourage you to take the time to speak with your veterinarian and thoughtfully consider all available options. Resources such as Euthabag and Ohio university can also provide helpful guidance in assessing your pet’s quality of life in an objective and supportive way.
If you feel uncertain or would like additional support, we also offer the option of booking a telemedicine pre-euthanasia consultation or a pre-euthanasia in-person examination with our team. These appointments are designed to help you better understand your pet’s condition, discuss your concerns, and make a decision that feels informed and compassionate for both you and your pet.
How long does it take to schedule an appointment ? Generally, we try to schedule your appointment within 1-3 days, depending on our availability. We always do our best to prioritize more urgent cases.
How do I schedule an appointment? You can fill out the form below or contact us directly at 514-VCV-VETS (514-828-8387).
What is the cost for in-home euthanasia? The cost of in-home euthanasia for your cherished pet starts at $550 and varies based on several factors, including your pet’s weight, your choice regarding the return of ashes, and your location. By completing the form above, we will be happy to provide you with a personalized estimate by email.
How does the procedure work? The euthanasia procedure involves two steps. Before beginning, the veterinarian will evaluate your animal and perform the first step of sedation. This first injection contains a sedative and an analgesic to alleviate pain. It is administered under the skin or into a muscle. The second step involves an intravenous injection that will gently stop the heart and reduce the respiratory rate while ensuring patient comfort. You will then have the necessary time to say goodbye in the intimacy and comfort of your home.
Is the procedure painful? The first injection contains an analgesic that relieves any discomfort your animal may feel. The second injection ensures cardiorespiratory arrest without causing additional pain or stress. Your companion will leave this world in the peace and dignity it deserves.
How long does the procedure take? We schedule one hour for your appointment, but on average, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Do you offer appointments outside of business hours? We understand that timing is important during this difficult moment. We do our best to accommodate your schedule when arranging an in-home euthanasia appointment and, whenever possible, offer appointments outside of our regular business hours at no additional cost.
What happens to the body after the procedure? The body of the animal is kept in a cool place until it is picked up by Ecopassage. If you wish to retrieve your pet's ashes, Ecopassage will contact you to arrange delivery, which can take approximately two weeks.
What is your policy regarding convenience euthanasia? At VCV, the patient comes first. We only perform humane euthanasia, which means those aimed at ending the physical or psychological suffering of an animal that no longer has viable treatment options. Therefore, our team reserves the right to refuse any euthanasia request if your animal does not suffer from major health or behavioral problems. In such cases, we can offer you alternatives and advice to better guide you. At VCV, we are convinced that the health and well-being of your animal should always be our top priority.
